    The course 'Software Analysis Methodologies' of Computer Science career at the University of Valparaiso has among its objectives to contribute to the development of competencies related to software requirements analysis. Traditionally, through the course the students applied methods and techniques for software requirements analysis in a project with real stakeholders. Nonetheless, this activities were performed outside the classroom, not allowing the teacher to assess the performance of critical competencies, not only related to the application of software engineering knowledge, but also related to the articulation of skills such as obtaining requirements through interviews, information organization and modeling, peer communication, analysis and validation using technical language, conflict management with stakeholders, and requirements validation with stakeholders using nontechnical language. This paper presents the approach of project-based learning with work activities with real stakeholders in classes. As result it has managed to continuously assess the development of skills, a pass rate of 96%, and the achievement of learning outcomes validated by a real counterpart (stakeholder), and also by the teacher and teammates. Also, this initiative shows the articulation of two Institutional Improvement Projects funded by the Ministry of Education, for STEM teaching methodologies, and for the application of Information Technology in the classroom.

    Does Gender Matter For Innovative And Non-Innovative Firms’ Growth? An Empirical Analysis Of Chilean Managers
    (Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2021-01-01)

    Firm growth has been a focus of attention for a large number of studies. However, the influence of a firm’s manager is still absent from many of these analyses. Departing from the data of the Longitudinal Survey of Businesses from Chile, the aim of this article is to analyse the relationship between innovation and firm growth depending on the sex of the leader between 2007 and 2015. Applying econometric models of quantiles with fixed effects, the results reveal that there is a positive relationship between innovation, firms led by women and sales growth. In particular, male managers exert a negative impact on the firm growth. This impact is particularly more important for non-innovative firms. Finally, the growth rate increases if a female manager replaces to a male manager. Conversely, the growth rate decreases if a male manager replaces a female manager.

    Currently, the improvement of core skills appears as one of the most significant educational challenges of this century. However, assessing the development of such skills is still a challenge in real classroom environments. In this context, Multimodal Learning Analysis techniques appear as an attractive alternative to complement the development and evaluation of core skills. This article presents an exploratory study that analyzes the collaboration and communication of students in a Software Engineering course, who perform a learning activity simulating Scrum with Lego® bricks. Data from the Scrum process was captured, and multidirectional microphones were used in the retrospective ceremonies. Social network analysis techniques were applied, and a correlational analysis was carried out with all the registered information. The results obtained allowed the detection of important relationships and characteristics of the collaborative and Non-Collaborative groups, with productivity, effort, and predominant personality styles in the groups. From all the above, we can conclude that the Multimodal Learning Analysis techniques offer considerable feasibilities to support the process of skills development in students.

    The Circadian Clock Gates Drosophila Adult Emergence By Controlling The Timecourse Of Metamorphosis

    Significance In holometabolous insects, the circadian clock restricts the time of adult emergence. Although this daily gating of behavior is one of the first circadian rhythms to be studied, little is known about the mechanism underlying the gating process itself. Here, we show that the circadian clock imposes a daily rhythmicity to the pattern of adult emergence by controlling the timing of the completion of metamorphosis. Thus, our findings reveal that the basis of gating is a developmental process and not an acute on/off activational switch and fundamentally changes our understanding of how this circadian control is accomplished. It also provides evidence of a mechanism by which the circadian clock imposes a daily rhythmicity to behavior through the control of the pace of development.

    The Role Of Information Sources As A Driver Of Innovation
    (Wiley, 2024-05-15)
    Quiroz, Paula
    ;

    Abstract An extensive empirical literature shows the important role that information sources have on firm innovation. However, there is scarce evidence on the different typologies of between technological and non‐technological innovations and their expectations. We investigate how the wide number of information sources affect the propensity to innovate and its future expectations. At the methodological level, we apply a multivariate Probit to the Innovation Survey of Chilean companies (2013–2016). Our results show that internal information sources, suppliers, clients and the Internet are significantly associated with the development of technological and non‐technological innovations. Social innovations are affected only by internal and by market (primarily from consultancy firms) sources of information. Finally, internal information sources and the Internet affect firms' expectations to innovate. Our results indicate the importance of different information flows and how they may drive the generation of innovations.

    This article examines Tourist eXperience (TX) and cultural factors from the perspective of Customer eXperience (CX). TX is understood to be the interactions with and responses of tourists to the products, systems, and services provided by organizations they engage with before, during, and after their trip, which significantly impact their experience and thus their satisfaction and loyalty. Considering cultural factors allows us to understand how the values and beliefs of tourists and their destinations relate to and affect TX. Based on this understanding, this research conducted an exhaustive review of the literature in the databases of Scopus, Web of Science, and Science Direct from 2012 to 2024, identifying 45 publications directly related to the following research questions: (1) What is TX? (2) What dimensions/attributes/factors influence TX? (3) What methods are used to evaluate TX? (4) How is culture analyzed in TX? We found a holistic definition of TX that corresponds to a subjective perception developed before, during, and after the trip, influenced by both the tourist’s culture and the destination. The most used evaluation methods for data collection were questionnaires/surveys and interviews. Additionally, it is important to understand the significance of culture in TX, as cultural clashes can generate both positive and negative perceptions in tourists.

    Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by a decrease in social interaction, communication, creativity, imagination, and organization of daily activities of those who have this condition. People with ASD present difficulties in the comprehension of figurative language, such as idioms. Due to the lack of mobile applications that support people with ASD in the comprehension of Chilean idioms, this project presents the design and development of an application for multitouch devices that support the comprehension of these linguistic expressions. The application is free and can currently be found on the Google Play platform with highly positive reviews.
